This is a list of UK Airshow Calendars from previous years, and may be useful to find out when a particular airshow was held.

Current Airshow Calendar

After a couple of years of airshow cancellations due to COVID it was good to see many events returning this year.

There were a few cancellations such as the Sunderland Airshow which cancelled due to COVID uncertainty. The Flying Legends Airshow was cancelled as they could not find a suitable location to hold this event and the Royal Navy International Air Day at RNAS Yeovilton cancelled for commercial reasons but it is hoped that it will return in 2023.

With the death of the Queen in September 2022, the Northern Ireland International Airshow and Abingdon Air & Country Show were cancelled out of respect.

However, it was good to see airshows such as the Royal International Air Tattoo, RAF Cosford Air Show, Farnborough Airshow return, along with many smaller events and Seafront displays like the Eastbourne (Airbourne) Airshow and Bournemouth Air Festival. The Bournemouth Air Festival organisers even managed a flypast by a USAF B-52H Stratofortress, on the Saturday, which was part of the regular Bomber Task Force deployment at RAF Fairford.

The Royal International Air Tattoo welcomed the Republic of Korea Air Force Aerobatic Team, the Black Eagles again after they first displayed at RIAT in 2012. The Black Eagles also displayed at this year's Southport Airshow. The RAF Cosford Air Show saw the debut of the RAF/RN F-35B Lightning along with a trio of colourful fighters including the RAF Typhoon (Blackjack), French Rafale and Belgian F-16AM (Dream Viper) as well as Historic Helicopters Wessex HU5 and Lynx AH.7 in the flying display and Sea King & Whirlwind helicopters on static display.

The Red Arrows took part in plenty of airshows this year, however, they only displayed with seven Hawk T1s instead of the usual nine aircraft. They said that two of the formation pilots have moved to other roles within the Royal Air Force. Unfortunately, Red 6 suffered a bad birdstrike at the Rhyl Airshow which caused the aircraft's canopy to be smashed but the pilot managed to land his aircraft safely at Hawarden Airport and was unhurt. The Red Arrows also took part in a flypast over Buckingham Palace for the Queen's Platinum Jubilee Flypast, 100 Sqn Disbandment Parade at RAF Leeming and the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham. On 27th September the Red Arrows moved to their new home at RAF Waddington because of the closure of RAF Scampton.

This year saw the retirement of the Hawk T1 which was operated by 100 Sqn at RAF Leeming and 736 NAS at RNAS Culdrose. The Royal Navy performed some Hawk T1 farewell flypasts from Cornwall to Prestwick on the 17th March and back to Culdrose on the 18 March 2022. They also performed a flypast around Cornwall on 24th March 2022. The Royal Air Force had a 100 Sqn disbandment parade at RAF Leeming on 24th March 2022 which included flypasts by several Hawk T1 aircraft. It was however announced that the Red Arrows will continue to use the Hawk T1 until 2030.

The BAE 146 aircraft at RAF Northolt were also retired this year with one aircraft going to the British Airliner Collection at Duxford, one to St Athan (South Wales Aviation Museum) and the other two went to a civilian operator. These aircraft were replaced by two Dassault 900LX aircraft at RAF Northolt.

The Battle of Britain Memorial Flight (BBMF) achieved Public Display Authority (PDA) on 25th March 2022 and performed displays at many airshows this year as well a great many flypasts over various events with the Lancaster also available for many of these airshows/events. The 2022 RAF Typhoon display pilot, Flt Lt Adam O'Hare, displayed in his colourful 'Blackjack' Typhoon FGR4.

The Queen's Platinum Jubilee included a large flypast of more than 70 aircraft over Buckingham Palace on Thursday 2nd June 2022. The rehearsals took place with 22 aircraft on Tuesday 24th May 2022.

The ninth and final RAF Poseidon arrived at RAF Lossiemouth in January and more RAF/RN F-35B Lightnings arrived at RAF Marham. RAF Lakenheath also saw the arrival of more USAF F-35A Lightning II aircraft this year.

With the Russian invasion of Ukraine this year, it was reported that the Ukrainian Antonov 225 was destroyed by Russian bombing. The Antonov 225 was the World's largest cargo plane with only one being fully built which was initially for the transportation of the Soviet 'Buron' Space Shuttle. It was later mothballed for eight years before being reintroduced into commercial operation with Antonov Airlines, carrying oversized payloads. It was also reported that former Su-27 Flanker Display Pilot Col. Oksanchenko died after he was shot down Near Kyiv in Ukraine.

To celebrate the '80th Anniversary of the Mighty Eighth', there was a flypast by a B-1B Lancer, two F-15E Strike Eagles and an RAF F-35B Lightning over Imperial War Museum Duxford and the Cambridge American Cemetery and Memorial (a World War II American military war grave cemetery) at Madingley in Cambridgeshire, UK on Tuesday 1st February 2022. The 80th Anniversary Flypast formation also flew over RAF Marham in Norfolk, as well as the American bases:- RAF Lakenheath and RAF Mildenhall bases in Suffolk.

The Sunderland Echo have said that Sunderland Council have no plans to stage a Sunderland Airshow in the future. More details here.
