Northern Ireland Airshows History
The two main air displays in Northern Ireland were the 'Newcastle Festival of Flight' and 'Airwaves: Northern Ireland International Airshow' in Portrush.

The 'Newcastle Festival of Flight' takes place over the shores of Newcastle in scenic County Down. The Festival includes family fun events with an Aviation and Food Village as well as the stunning flying display.

'Airwaves: Northern Ireland International Airshow' was a two-day flagship event in the Northern Ireland calendar, hosted in the popular seaside resort of Portrush. As well as the fantastic air displays on each day there was plenty of entertainment on the ground.

Newcastle Festival of Flight was cancelled in 2020 due to COVID-19 and the Northern Ireland International Airshow at Portrush was cancelled in 2020 due to funding being cut.

It was announced by the 'Mourne Observer' on 16th February 2022 that the Newcastle Festival of Flight would not take place in 2022. Causeway coast and Glenns council voted to reinstate the Portrush Airshow from 2022 and run it every 2 years, as long as funding can be found. It will then be known as the 'International Causeway Airshow'.

The Northern Ireland International Airshow cancelled in 2022 following the sad passing of Her Majesty The Queen.
