A Great Maldon Armed Forces Day at Promenade Park
The bright sunshine brought out the crowds for this year's Maldon Armed Forces Day, which was held on Sunday the 25th of June in Promenade Park, Maldon. The disappointment caused by problems with the Merlin engines in the BBMF's historic fleet of aircraft led to the RAF grounding the BBMF fleet (including the expected Lancaster flypast at Promenade Park) for all Armed Forces Day weekend celebrations, did not dampen the spirit of the visitors nor those with displays, vehicles or stands. The opportunity was taken to remember our Armed Forces personnel, with a parade of veterans and Cadets. The event organised by the Essex HMVA and Maldon District Council has proven popular in previous years and this year's event was just as successful.
Colin Tebb, Chairman of the Essex Historic Military Vehicle Association said:
"Today we honour the sacrifice of the brave men and women in our armed services. For those no longer with us, we hope we are helping to keep memories of them alive, for those who served, and are still serving, today marks our thanks for continuing to ensure our safety. I would also like to thank Maldon District Council, for helping to make today possible, and to the people to Maldon for making the members of our charity so welcoming."
The event saw representatives from both Maldon's District and Town Councils attend. They got to meet local cadets, as well as members of the local Veterans Breakfast Clubs and the British Legion.
