Last year’s bumper RAF Cosford Air Show brought an estimated £1.8m pounds worth of new business into the West Midlands and this is expected to be matched or even exceeded for the 2014 event on 8th June. During the weekend of the Show sales at petrol stations, garden centres and many other small businesses all soar. The benefit is also felt by local hotels and B&Bs in the days leading up to the event, with many fully booked several months in advance. A significant factor in the increase of income to the area is the Air Show policy of placing as many contracts a possible with local suppliers. Air Show spokesman Amanda Butcher said “There is a huge requirement for services for the event, from equipment hire to waste disposal and from tentage to catering outlets and whenever possible we give these contracts to someone in our wider catchment area.”
Another benefit for local businesses is the chance to take advantage of the exhibition areas, hospitality packages or advertising opportunities. The hospitality options provide a choice of entertainment levels giving everything from an informal environment to the all-inclusive Gold corporate package which includes VIP access and parking. The corporate enclosures provide an excellent environment to entertain clients while enjoying one of the most exciting events in the West Midlands from the front seats. This year’s show includes appearances from the Red Arrows celebrating their 50th Anniversary year, the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight and the Great War Team.
