Vampire WZ507 Prepares For Re-Spray
WZ507, operated by the Vampire Preservation Group and believed to be the only airworthy de Havilland Vampire T11 in the world, has now begun preparation work for a complete re-spray.

The work is expected to last for around five weeks and will involve rubbing off the old paint, inspecting the airframe and removing any corrosion, priming, painting and lacquering.

This work is required because the current paint has been on the aircraft for approximately twenty years and is beginning to look very patchy especially in areas that have been previously treated for corrosion. The new paint scheme will transform the appearance of this vintage aircraft and help protect the airframe from any deterioration for the foreseeable future.

It is hoped that WZ507 will be revealed in her new colours in early April more details will be released nearer the time.

Photographs attached, showing WZ507 during initial sanding. Rudders, ailerons and elevator have been removed, paint is rubbed back and minor areas of corrosion on the wing skin are treated.

Please email if you wish to attend WZ507's 'roll out' in the new colour scheme. The date will be advised when the re-spray is closer to completion, but will probably be during first week of April.
