Newark Air Museum - Press Release

Phantom FGR2 XV490 cockpit extended stay!

A rare icon from the Cold War era of British aviation, Phantom FGR2 cockpit from XV490 is now due for a longer than anticipated display period at the Newark Air Museum's Drove Lane Site in eastern Nottinghamshire.

The cockpit, which won the 'Cockpiteers Award' at Cockpit-Fest 2011, is now expected to remain at the museum's Drove Lane site for at least another year. This follows the signing of a new loan agreement with the owner.

As many people are aware most British Phantom airframes were destroyed as part of the International Arms Limitation Treaties that were negotiated towards the end of the Cold War. This particular cockpit section survived the scrap-man's torch and until spring 2011 was displayed at the Hack Green Secret Nuclear Bunker attraction near Nantwich, Cheshire.
