February 2012 Half Term Open Cockpits
Newark Air Museum
The Newark Air Museum is hosting an extensive series of special events for the 2012 season and the first of these is the Half Term open Cockpit Week.
This runs from Saturday 11 to Sunday 19 February 2012 inclusive: and on each day during this period at least one aircraft cockpit will be open for inspection [a small additional fee of 50p is charged to access the cockpit]. Amongst those aircraft expected to be open are the Canberra B(I)8, the Shackleton and the Vulcan.
Opening Hours daily 1000 – 1600 hours (including weekends) last admission 1500 hours. Museum admission rates are: Adults £7.00, Over 60s £6.00, Children £4.00 and Family ticket [2 adults & 3 children] £20.00.
Regular updates about which cockpits will be open on each day will be posted on the news page of the museum website www.newarkairmuseum.org
For this new season the museum trustees have introduced height restrictions for access to some aircraft as displayed on site. Initially this applies to the Vulcan and Buccaneer aircraft, which both have steep access ladders and anyone wishing to pay the additional 50p per person fee to go inside these aircraft (when they are opened by the museum volunteers) will have to be at least 1.00m (one metre) in height.
It is hoped these new arrangements will simplify questions of whether an individual is allowed to access the aircraft and it follows similar guidelines adopted at other venues around the UK. Possible visitors are also reminded that for some aircraft admission we simply ask that people consider making a donation to museum funds for being allowed into the particular aircraft or helicopter. Parents & Carers are reminded that they are responsible for the safety of children and young people in their care whilst on the museum site.
