RIAT 2017 - RELIVE THRILLS OF VINTAGE AIR TATTOO

Widely considered a "vintage" Royal International Air Tattoo, all the action from last summer's thrilling airshow has been captured on a newly-released official DVD.

The three-day airshow at RAF Fairford, which attracted 246 aircraft representing 32 different air arms from around the globe, featured enough gems in the flying display and on the ground to keep even the most ardent enthusiast happy.

Thanks to aviation film specialists PlanesTV, all the flying action including pilot interviews and dramatic in-cockpit footage has been captured on high definition, and 4K quality cameras for the official Air Tattoo 2017 DVD/Blu-ray priced £20/£25.

The two-hour main programme includes displays by the F-22 'Raptor' and the USAF Thunderbirds plus a special formation flypast with the Red Arrows as part of celebrations marking the 70th anniversary of the US Air Force. A surprise flypast by a stealth B-2 Spirit bomber during Sunday's airshow also features.

Other highlights include the UK display debut of the French Air Force's Couteau Delta team flying two Mirage 2000D fighter aircraft; the Midnight Hawks display team from Finland and a Sukhoi Su-27 'Flanker' from the Ukrainian Air Force.

In-cockpit cameras give dramatic views of the action during many of the displays, including the USAF Special Ops CV-22B Osprey, the RAF Typhoon FGR.4, French Air Force Rafale C and the Turkish Air Force F-16C display 'Solo Turk'. Meanwhile, two soundtracks allow you to choose between listening to the commentary or simply enjoying the aircraft sounds during viewing.

An extra 100 minutes of special features are included on the DVD with aircraft arrivals and departures, an extended feature on the US Air Force 70th anniversary and a closer look at the Thunderbirds' visit. Belgian Air Force F-16 solo display pilot Tom De Moortel gives a pilot's perspective with a talk through his full routine, and cameras go behind-the-scenes to give viewers an idea of what it takes to be an Air Tattoo volunteer.

For those who want to enjoy extended in-cockpit action plus comprehensive coverage of arrivals and departures, a special Collector's Edition is available (DVD £30/Blu-ray £35).
