UK Airshow Calendar 2016

Eyes pointing to the skies for Clacton Airshow 2016

The waiting is almost over and all eyes will be pointing to the skies for Clacton Airshow 2016.

The event takes place on Thursday (August 25) and Friday (August 26) and organisers Tendring District Council (TDC) will be celebrating 25 years of flying over the town.

With 17 aerial displays on the first day - including three night flights for the very first time - and a further 14 on the second day there will be plenty of action for all to enjoy.

The performances begin around 2pm on Thursday and 1pm on Friday and the forecast is for the weather to be set fair on both days.

Tanya Ferguson, TDC's Cabinet member for Tourism and Culture, said it is her first year in the role and she is really looking forward to marking it with a fantastic event.

"The airshow really is a crowd-puller and crowd-pleaser and we anticipate more than 200,000 people turning out over the two days. It is a financial boost for both the town and the whole District," she said.

"It is an event for all ages and not only do we have the flights but there is so much more on the ground for families to enjoy. With our new beaches - which are not covered by the tide - there will be even more vantage points from which to make the most of the two days.

"I urge everyone to come along and join in and there is even a superb firework display after flying finishes on Thursday evening - what more could you ask for."

Cllr Ferguson praised TDC's team behind the airshow, including TSA Consulting who have organised the flying programme.

"It is not easy and regulations brought in by the CAA have had an effect on which planes can take part but as always we have a brilliant line-up full of thrills and excitement," she added.

"The ever popular Red Arrows will be performing on both days, as will the RAF Typhoon, Tiger Parachute Display Team, the Sally B, the RAF Battle of Britain Memorial Flight, MiG 15 and many more.

"I suggest fans get their special souvenir programme which goes on sale on Wednesday to find out when their favourite is flying.

"Also please give generously to the bucket collectors - I will be out there myself and look forward to playing my part - to ensure the show continues for many years to come."
