RNAS Yeovilton International Air Day 2008 - Press Release
Middle-Eastern Magic
Air Day's action-packed, five-hour Flying Display on Saturday 5 July is set to include one of the most dynamic, exhilarating and popular display teams in the world.
The Royal Jordanian Falcons are the national aerobatic team of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, and fly four Extra 300L aerobatic aircraft through a dazzling routine that has been seen by audiences worldwide.
The Royal Jordanian Falcons' performance is a master-class in the art of display flying. Lasting around 14 minutes, it features manoeuvres in close formation, crossovers, spectacular breaks (including the very patriotic and visually stunning 'Hashemite Break') and unlimited solo aerobatics.
The solo segments of the display in particular showcase how the Extra 300 remains among the most agile aerobatic aircraft around. The basic airframe is stressed to +/-10g, but the Extra 300L as flown by the Falcons is a upgraded version with a low wing and better ailerons than the original - giving it a roll-rate of a staggering 400 degrees per second!
The Royal Jordanian Falcons are making their first visit to Air Day for ten years, and are sure to be one of the Flying Display's real highlights.
Other foreign visitors to Air Day announced so far include a giant United States Air Force C-17 Globemaster III military transport aircraft, and German Navy Sea King and Lynx helicopters.
