RIAT 2006 News Release

EAST MEETS WEST IN DISPLAY OF POWER
The very latest version of the legendary Russian-built MiG-29, never before seen in the UK, is set to make its dramatic debut at this summer’s Royal International Air Tattoo.

Already acclaimed as one of the world’s most potent fighter aircraft, the MiG-29 OVT has vectored thrust giving it a level of manoeuvrability to match its awesome power. Thanks to its moving thrust nozzles, the aircraft is capable of hanging in the air like a helicopter and attacking an enemy from any angle.

And, for the first time, there will be the chance to compare its capabilities against one of the MiG’s closest rivals, Boeing’s incredible F/A-18E/F Super Hornet.

In 2004, a Super Hornet piloted by Boeing test pilot Ricardo Traven took to the skies above Fairford and performed a spectacular and high-energy routine that scooped a record-breaking number of RIAT awards for Ricardo and his team. All eyes will be looking at whether the aircraft can replicate this success in July.
