AIR TATTOO'S 2009 POSTER TAKES OFF

ORGANISERS of the Royal International Air Tattoo have unveiled their poster image for 2009, designed for the third year running by renowned artist Philip Castle.

Philip, who designed iconic posters for the films A Clockwork Orange, Full Metal Jacket and The Boyfriend, created the distinctive airbrush poster images for the airshow, which takes place at RAF Fairford on July 18 and 19.

The finished poster features examples of NATO airpower past and present including the Typhoon, Rafale, Raptor, F-16 and Sabre to mark the 60th anniversary of the Alliance.

Philip says: “I've been an aeroplane enthusiast all my life – the interest came from my father's tales of being in the RAF during the war – and I've been to just about every Air Tattoo since its first days at Greenham Common. I always felt that designing the artwork would be an interesting job so I'm delighted that it's come around: it's nice to finish each project and hear people's comments, but the best part is getting the job, with a new brief and a new challenge.”

Tim Prince, Director of the Air Tattoo, said: “We're delighted that Philip has once again designed some stunning artwork for the airshow, presenting state-of-the-art technology in a distinctive and striking manner, and reflecting all of the excitement of the Air Tattoo.”

The Air Tattoo is staged in support of the Royal Air Force Charitable Trust. Special cut-price tickets are available until March 31, priced £30.95. Under-16s go free. For more details please visit airtattoo.com
