"FRED" reassembled

One of the home-built aircraft displayed at the Newark Air Museum, Clutton FRED [Flying Runabout Experimental Design] Series 2 G-BJAD has recently been partially reassembled. This work has been undertaken as part of the ongoing enhancement of the display area in the museum’s Display Hangar 1 that incorporates the Lee Richards Annular Biplane replica, Tiger Moth, General Aircraft Monospar and several micro-lights.

The main work involved refitting FRED’s innovative folding wings, which were designed to be folded and unfolded by one person and also allowed the type to be “towed behind a car at speeds of up to 70 mph”.

During the coming months the area around theses airframes in Display Hangar 1will be developed further to provide enhanced access and improved viewing of this unusual range of aircraft.
