NEWARK AIR MUSEUM - News Release
MiGs 'star' at Open Cockpit Weekend - Newark Air Museum
On October 17th & 18th, 2009 the Newark Air Museum is hosting a special two day open cockpit event. This will provide rare viewing experience of a number of the museum's historic aircraft cockpits, which normally remain in-accessible.
The two 'stars' of the show will be the two former Soviet Air Force MiG jet fighter bombers, which are unique to Newark Air Museum. The Mikoyan-Gurevich MiG-23 and MiG-27 “Flogger” aircraft are the only ones displayed in any British aviation museum.
Additional aircraft will also be available for viewing, with the viewing times of all open cockpits being staggered throughout each day depending on the availability of volunteer aircraft openers. N.B. sadly people will not be able to sit in these cockpits.
It is hoped that members of the museum's Cockpit-Opening Team will be on hand to open some of the larger aircraft like the Vulcan, Shackleton, Hastings and Varsity; but admission to each of these aircraft will be charged at the normal rate of 50p per person.
The Crusader 80 – British Army of the Rhine, Military Vehicle Display and Re-enactment Group, will be 'camped' at the museum over this weekend; providing additional photo opportunities around several of the museum aircraft.
On Saturday October 17th the Nottinghamshire & Lincolnshire Air Ambulance will be based in the museum's Southfield Site, where, subject to operational commitments both it and its crews will be available to meet the public.
Opening Hours on both days 1000 – 1700 hours, last admission 1600 hours.
The normal museum admission rates will apply: Adults £6.25, Over 60s £5.75, Children £4.00 and Family ticket [2 adults & 3 children] £18.50.
