NEWARK AIR MUSEUM - News Release

Monospar Update

The Curator from Newark Air Museum recently had a letter published in the January / February 2009 edition of 'Flight Safety Australia', the official magazine of the Australian Civil Aviation Safety Authority about General Aircraft Monospar VH-UTH.

Publication of this letter has resulted in a huge influx of emails and letters, which are helping to fill in a lot of the hitherto 'missing' details about VH-UTH's operations and providing an important new photographic record for the aircraft's flying career across Australia. The museum trustees are known to be very encouraged by this excellent response.

At the museum's Winthorpe Showground site work continues on refitting parts and 'scratch-building' missing items. The starboard wing is now structurally complete [just waiting for fabric to be applied], with all control cables, pitot fittings and navigation light cabling fitted. Similar work is now underway on the port wing, along with detailed work on the trim controls.

The team undertaking the restoration work are again in need of some specific information to help their work to continue to progress. This time it relates to the hinge system for the cockpit roof; especially how and where the hinges were fitted and how the locking arm operates.

As with previous requests, any feedback to assist with this project would be greatly appreciated.
