Mini-Moves Aid Lightning Repaint At Newark Air Museum
In a co-ordinated a series of mini-moves around Newark Air Museum's Drove Lane Site, two of the larger loaned cockpits have been relocated into fresh display positions.
The completion of these mini-moves has allowed the museum's Restoration Manager to reposition Lightning XS417 onto a different part of the concrete area near Display Hangar 1. This final move has provided improved access to the Lightning, which is now having it camouflage topcoats of paint applied to return XS417 to the colour scheme and markings it wore with the Lightning Training Flight (LTF) at RAF Binbrook, Lincs. in the mid-1980s.
The loaned items that have been relocated are the Canberra PR.7 cockpit from WH779 and the Phantom FGR2 cockpit from XV490. Both cockpits will remain in their new positions until after Cockpit-Fest 2012, which takes place on June 16th & 17th, 2012; after which time the situation will be reassessed.
