British Aviation Preservation Council- News Release
160th Meeting of the British Aviation Preservation Council
The British Aviation Preservation Council [BAPC] held their 160th Meeting at the de Havilland Aircraft Heritage Centre at London Colney, Herts, on Saturday May 19, 2007.
In October this year the BAPC will celebrate its 40th Anniversary and delegates at the 160th were provided with preliminary details about how BAPC plans to celebrate this landmark Anniversary. The meeting also gave the BAPC Executive Committee the opportunity to update delegates about several key initiatives including:
- Plans to update the National Aviation Heritage Register [NAHR]
- Provide outline details for the next Stopping The Rot Conference in 2008
- The progress being made on the National Aviation Heritage Skills Initiative [NASHI], which has so far delivered 98 training sessions to 16 aviation organisations in the UK; enabling 707 trainees to receive assorted aviation training modules; and has so far seen 382 training certificates awarded. [These training sessions are available free to all BAPC member organisations]
- Details were also provided about the soon to be re-launched BAPC website at www.bapc.org.uk
Delegates were given excellent access to the various aircraft displayed at the de Havilland Aircraft Heritage Centre and the official BAPC meetings were held in the Centre’s main display hangar. A particular highlight for many delegates was being asked to assist with moving Mosquito TT.35 TA634 ‘SK-K’ outside to create space in the display hangar in which to hold the meetings. As one person was heard to remark “I’ve always dreamed of helping to roll-out a Mosquito!”
During the afternoon session BAPC held its 2006 Annual General Meeting and delegates then received a short presentation from Bruce Gordon of the de Havilland Aircraft Heritage Centre and Dr Robert Pleming, who provided an update about the Vulcan To The Sky project.
