Lincolnshire’s Lancaster Association Members Day
September 30, 2007
The annual Lincolnshire’s Lancaster Association [LLA] Members Day took place at RAF Coningsby on Sunday September 30, 2007. The excellent weather and the fact that it was the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight’s [BBMF] 50th Anniversary year drew thousands to the Lincolnshire base.
Those who made the effort to attend were treated to an excellent short flying display, which drew gasps of delight from everyone there. The close formation approach from behind the BBMF display hangar was stunningly low. This was followed by several formation flypasts and then cameo displays from Spitfire PZ350 and Lancaster PA474 provided a fantastic farewell to those personnel who were leaving the BBMF at the end of this season, with a final flypast from the two aircraft seeming to be even lower than the opening approach.
As each aircraft landed and returned to the apron area in front of the BBMF hangar the gathered LLA members gave rapturous applause to each of the pilots and aircrew members, who were then treated to a celebratory glass of champagne.
Well done everyone at the BBMF and the LLA – roll on the start of the 2008 display season!
