Imperial War Museum - Duxford - Press Release
Half Term Family Fun at Duxford!
There’s plenty to see and do this half term at Imperial War Museum
Duxford, from Sunday 15 to Sunday 22nd February, with hands-on
activities and events for the whole family whatever the weather.
On Sunday 15 February find out about the relationship between the American
armed forces and British people during the Second World War and explore how
Duxford was a part of this friendly invasion. Our event, What the Americans
did for us,includes guided tours of the American Air Museum, costumed
characters explaining the various roles of American servicemen in Britain
during the war and a Jive dance demonstration. There’s a rare opportunity for
children to try on the uniforms used by bomber crews during the war and
everyone can take part in a drawing competition, with the winning entry
displayed on the IWM Duxford website.
FromWednesday 18, our Tail End Charlie interpreter will be in AirSpace to
explain what it was like to be a member of Bomber Command, whilst in the
American Air Museum his counterpart, an American Air Crew gunner will bring
to life the dangerous daytime missions flown over Europe. From Thursday 19
to Saturday 21, Khaki on Campaign reveals the life of a British corporal during
1944. Each interpreter will have period uniforms and artefacts for visitors to
inspect and handle and is available to answer your questions.
For younger visitors there will also be parachute making on Monday 16,
Tuesday 17 and Wednesday 18 in AirSpace, Duxford’s dramatic new
exhibition, celebrating British and Commonwealth aviation and home to
Duxford’s Concorde as well as the iconic Spitfire and Lancaster.
Standard admission charges to the Museum apply; all of the extra activities are
free. For further information and to plan your half term at Duxford, visit
