Duxford 2006 Press Release
Thrilling first for Duxford - Eurofighter Typhoon to feature in Air Show
The Imperial War Museum Duxford is delighted to announce that the Eurofighter Typhoon will be making its Duxford debut at the AirSpace Air Show on Sunday 21 May.
The Typhoon is the world's most advanced swing-role combat aircraft and is the latest addition to the RAF’s frontline combat force. It will thrill visitors as it performs what promises to be a breath-taking display demonstrating its agility and speed.
The AirSpace Air Show will also showcase some of the types of aircraft that will feature in the new multi-million pound exhibition, ranging from the world-famous Lancaster bomber, to the first operational British jet fighter the Gloster Meteor, right through to the RAF’s primary attack aircraft the Tornado.
AirSpace, set to be fully open in the summer of 2007, will tell the story of Britain’s aviation industry from its earliest days to the present with interactive and visual displays encompassing not only the history, but also the science behind flight. The project has been supported by BAE Systems, £10.5 million from the Heritage Lottery Fund and £1,993,000 by the East of England Development Agency.
The debut of the Typhoon at Duxford will be a fitting tribute to its forebears that will feature in the AirSpace exhibition and represents a project at the very forefront of British aviation that has been accomplished in conjunction with our European partners. Says Duxford’s Marketing and PR Manager Tracey Woods “We are very excited that this outstanding aircraft will be making its first appearance at Duxford alongside some of the most famous aircraft in history and the AirSpace air show provides a wonderful opportunity to see this amazing aircraft in action”
