Duxford Gears Up For First Major UK Airshow
Plans are well underway for the first major air show in the UK to be held on Sunday 21 May at the Imperial War Museum Duxford. This first show of the season will celebrate AirSpace - another milestone in the illustrious history of the historic Duxford site, which spans nearly 90 years.

The show will present some of the types of aircraft that will feature in AirSpace, the Museum’s new multi-million pound exhibition, due to open fully next year.

The line-up will include the cream of British and Commonwealth aircraft and demonstrate the rich history of British and Commonwealth aviation, featuring classic aircraft such as the Lancaster and Spitfire, right through to modern day jets like the Tornado GR4. The show will also feature a wide range of trade stands and the whole of the Museum will be open as usual for visitors to enjoy the full Duxford experience.

“This show really will feature some of the best of British, including some of the most exciting and iconic aircraft of their time from the perennially popular Spitfire to the Canberra, which ended its RAF career this year” says Duxford’s Marketing and PR Manager Tracey Woods.

The AirSpace exhibition will tell the Story of Britain’s aviation industry from its earliest days to the present with interactive and visual displays encompassing not only the history, but also the science behind flight. The project has been supported by BAE Systems, £10.5 million from the Heritage Lottery Fund and £1,993,000 by the East of England Development Agency.

At present, the Museum is eagerly awaiting the handover of the AirSpace building so that work on the exhibitions and aircraft displays can get underway, and soon visitors will be able to get a closer look at what will be a definitive landmark in Duxford’s history.
