Biggin Hill Air Fair 2007 Press Release

INNOVATION AND CELEBRATION MARK BIGGIN HILL INTERNATIONAL AIR FAIR 2007
The Biggin Hill International Air Fair 2007, set for the weekend of 2nd & 3rd June 07, is delighted to announce that a partnership between Air Displays International and the RAF Event Team has led to it hosting the first of a new type of RAF display.

The sequence will combine modern military might with various ground assets and a dedicated commentary to produce an enthralling and innovative display that will simultaneously give the spectators an insight in to modern RAF capabilities and leave them breathless.

“Throughout its time as an RAF airfield, Biggin Hill has been instrumental in developing new air power capabilities so it is fitting that the UK’s most famous historical airfield has been chosen as the launch venue for what is the biggest change in RAF displaying for many years” says Colin Hitchins, ADI Chief Executive. In addition to demonstrating the best of the current RAF, The Biggin Hill International Air Fair 2007 will also be commemorating its history as it hosts the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight (BBMF) during its 50th display season.

The BBMF will be performing a very special display over the airfield at which it was formed during the summer of 1957. “We still consider Biggin Hill as the spiritual home of the BBMF so are thrilled that we have been chosen to host such a special celebration. Once again we can look forward to the sky above Biggin Hill being filled with Spitfires and Hurricanes” says Sqn Ldr Al Pinner, leader of the BBMF. “We are proud and thrilled that the BBMF will be returning to its birthplace to mark this key anniversary for a weekend of public celebration, with some very special events. The existence of the Memorial Flight has been an inspiration to millions of spectators over fifty years, also a massive educational asset for younger generations” says ADI’s Colin Hitchins.

The 2007 Air Fair will incorporate a number of key changes to showground layout designed to provide improved spectator viewing. The spectator line is to be extended and aircraft parking areas are to be repositioned to allow better sight lines along the runway. Display aircraft will be allocated to a new enclosure that enables better access for spectators to see and photograph the pilots as they prepare for flight and return afterwards.
