Airbourne 2006 News Release

Airbourne 2006 News Release - (November 2006)

Welcome to the latest 'Friends of Airbourne' Newsletter that is aimed to keep you up to date with the latest news and events. For those who have recently joined 'Friends of Airbourne', we hope you'll find this a useful source of information.

Airbourne 2006

Weather better than forecast We hope you enjoyed the 14th Airbourne with over 90 flying displays. Although the weather forecast predicted rain for the event we were pleasantly surprised and it was dry and bright for most of the four days.

French Mirage 2000 Alongside the traditional displays including the Spitfire (which celebrated its 70th birthday this year) we were delighted to welcome the French Air force and their 'Mirage 2000' and they certainly gave a great display with their zoom climbs and barrel rolls.

Airbourne Review Thank you to all those who submitted their views on The Council's internet site regarding the value of Airbourne. The final report has now been published and after careful consideration of the event the committee decided on five recommendations;

(a) Airbourne is a positive benefit to Eastbourne and the South East region and should therefore continue
(b) Eastbourne Borough Council continue to run the event unless a successful alternative is found
(c) Attention should be given to feedback from the general public and ways should be found of measuring and minimising negative impact
(d) That the scrutiny review is carried out on a three yearly cycle in order to review the value of the event
(e) A form of monitoring numbers should be sought.

These recommendations will be taken into consideration for next year's event but we are also pleased that Airbourne has been recognised as having such a positive effect on Eastbourne and the region. Full details of the report can be found on the Council's web site at http://www.eastbourne.gov.uk/council/meetings/scrutiny and by clicking on the 4th September 2006 date.

Airbourne DVD Many of you took the opportunity at the event to pre-order the official Airbourne DVD giving you a chance to relive all the fantastic displays you enjoyed so much the first time round. Planes TV, the company producing the DVD, plan to distribute the DVDs from late November. If you didn't get the chance to pre-order now is your chance to buy that early Christmas present for friends or family or just to treat yourself to the DVD. To download the order form, simply click on www.eastbourneairshow.com , fill in the form and return to the address on the form, completing your card details or enclosing a cheque for payment. A percentage of the profits go towards the costs of running Airbourne.

And finally… We hope that you enjoyed Airbourne 2006 and look forward to seeing you at next year's event returning on the 16th – 19th August 2007.

Best wishes from

Eastbourne Airbourne Team.
